SHIRLEY J. PERKINS-MCDONALD
September 22, 1941 - July 17, 2016
Shirley J. Perkins-McDonald, 74, was born September 22, 1941, in Kansas City, Missouri to Mildred Perkins.
A Kansas City, native she graduated from Central High School, Class of 1959, where she made life-long friends. After graduating, she later attended Longview Community College. She worked for several departments within the United States Government including The Department of Education, and GSA.
In the spring of 1962, she met Harry E. McDonald, Sr. On March 31, 1963 they married. To that union God blessed them with three children, and three step-children. Harry E. McDonald, Jr., Phyliss Candler, Anthony S. McDonald, Marc A. McDonald, LaVette M. Owens, and Robin R. McDonald.
Her Christian affiliation began as a child at Bethel AME where she accepted the Lord as her personal Savior, and was a member of the Usher Board #2. She was also an active member of Harvest Church International Outreach. She later joined New Life in Christ under the leadership of Apostle Keith Wesley, where she was a member for more than 20 years, and served on the Mother Board.
Shirley was loved by many because of her caring, loving, and outgoing spirit. She enjoyed spending time with her children, her large extended family and friends. After her retirement, she became a very active member of the Kansas City Travel’s Club with whom she loved to travel and eat with.
Shirley answered the Master’s call on Sunday, July 17, 2016. Her mother, Mildred Perkins, husband, Harry E. McDonald, Sr., two sons, Harry E. “Mac” McDonald Jr., and Anthony “Tony” McDonald, and one daughter, Phyliss Candler all preceded
She leaves to cherish her memory one son, Marc A. McDonald (Nephatia), Chicago, IL; two daughters: LaVette M. Owens, Kansas City, MO., and Robin R. McDonald, Lees Summit, MO; her dearest and closest cousin, Glenda Faye Hurley, Kansas City, MO.; daughter-in-law Liza McDonald; a very close friend, Dixie Jones; sixteen grandchildren; nineteen great grand-children, and host of other relatives and friends.
