DEACON ORVILLE BENSON
December 16, 1936 - October 13, 2016
Mr. Orville Benson, 79, was born on December 16, 1936, in Triplett, Missouri to Mr. Earnest Benson and Mrs. Marie Magline Cooper Benson, one of seven children. He was educated in the Triplett, Missouri School District. Orville was united in holy matrimony to Linda Carol Mosley and to this union, two daughters were born, Cymenthria Mosley Benson and Orvilla Mosley Benson.
He was a member of Triplett Baptist Church in Triplett, Missouri. After moving to Kansas City, he joined United Missionary Baptist Church, under the Late Rev. Johnnie Guyton. He later united with Travelers Rest Baptist Church, under Elder Johnson and remained after his death to serve under Pastor Lee Barnes. He finally moved his membership to the Victory Way Free Church, under the leadership of the late, Bishop C.W Burchette, where he served as a faithful member until his passing. Orville continued to serve faithfully under the present pastor, Bishop Willie Culclager, Jr. He served as Chairman of the Deacon Board, and sang in the Senior Choir, and the Men of Victory, until his call from labor to reward.
Deacon Orville worked in many professions; he loved to tinker with cars. His passion was for his family and music. He sang in many gospel groups with his brothers, and was the founder of the “Old Time Gospel Singers and the Men of Victory.
Deacon Orville loved God, his church family, and his natural family. He always wanted his family to get in Church and serve God. He was so devoted to the church and Pastor, that even when his health began to fail, he would say, “Just get me to church and everything will be alright. GOD first, then family is what he stood on.
Orville is preceded in death by his mother, Maria Scott, father, Earnest Benson, step-father, Earnest Julius Scott, four brothers, Harold Benson, John Leroy Benson, Emmett Benson, and Earnest Benson, sister, and brother in law, Ophelia and James Stevenson, oldest daughter, Cymenthria LaSawn Benson, and his niece, Shirley Shell.
He leaves to morn his transition on Thursday, October 13, 2016 from this earth, his wife of 45 years, Linda Benson, of the home; daughter, Orvilla Mosley Benson; 6 grand-children, Rolando Aaron, Markellia Smith, Orviron Wells, Seaneal Gasaway, Sean Gasaway and Shakedria Wells; 5 great-grandchildren, Erin Hampton, Errion Henderson, Errionna Gasaway, Elijah Gasaway, all of Kansas City, and J’ Maya of Arkansas; two brothers, Charles Scott of Kansas City, MO and James Benson and wife, of North Carolina; sisters in-law, Julia Benson and Melba Benson, both of Kansas City, Letha Mosley, Arkansas, Jewell Stevenson, Barbara Robinson, Jean Mosley, and Rosemary Mosley; brothers in-law, Bishop W.C. Mosely, Ivan Mosley, Herbert Mosley, Leroy Davis, Dennis Mosley, and David Mosley, of Oklahoma; his special friends, Elder Marvin Wright and Mr. Johnnie Lister and a host of nieces and great nephews, as well as the entire Victory Way Church Family.
