BILLIE JEAN PETERSON

Billie Jean Peterson, 88, was born to William Thomas Dickens and Pearline Tyler on July 11, 1928 in Guthrie Oklahoma.
It was there in Guthrie, she met and fell in love with Troy Williams. They married in 1943, and to this union three children were born, Wendell Williams, George Ray Williams, and Karen Beth Williams. The marriage was later dissolved.
Wanting to be close to family, Billie Jean and her children left Oklahoma and moved to Kansas City. Shortly after that, she met and married Donald Peterson in 1954.
Billie Jean was employed at General Motors. She also worked at Trinity Lutheran Hospital for eleven years. She was very compassionate and enjoyed helping others. Eventually, she enrolled at Tarkio School for Nursing where she obtained her nursing license. She was also a member and President of the Women’s Auxiliary American Legion Post 213.
Billie Jean was dedicated to serving the Lord. She was a lifelong member of St. Matthew AME Zion Church. She was an active member of the Deaconess Board, the Women’s Home, the Overseas Missionary Society, and a Sunday school teacher.
Billie Jean enjoyed playing cards, cooking her famous homemade chocolate and cheese cakes. She loved celebrating holidays and spending time with her family and friends.
Billie Jean Dickens Peterson passed away on Saturday, June 24, 2017 at her home. She was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas and Pearline Dickens, husband, Donald Peterson, sister, Carolyn Murray, son, Wendell Williams, nephew, George “Jeep” Williams, great-grandson, Erich N. Williams, and special cousins, Ossi (Helen) Layton.
She leaves to cherish her memory her children, George Ray Williams, and Karen (Bernard) Stevenson; two special sons, Johnny Farr, and Ricky (Darlene) Farr; one brother, Joseph (Ella Mae) Dickens; four grandsons, Bruce D. Williams, Wendell L. Williams, Eugene (Kortnee) Williams, and Craig (Isha) Williams; twenty-eight great-grandchildren; thirty-one great-great grandchildren and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins, other relatives and friends.
Services held at St. Matthews's AME Zion, at 11:00 a.m., on July 3, 2017. Officated by Rev. Kelsey Hopson. Arrangements by Golden Gate Funeral & Cremation Services. Interment at Brooking Cemetery
