MONICA ELAINE MAYS
January 5, 1965 - December 3, 2016
Monica E. Mays was born January 5, 1965 in Kansas City, Kansas to Elvis and Edith Mays.
Elaine, as she was affectionately called, was educated in the Kansas City, Kansas Public School System. She was captain and co-captain of the drill team at Northwest Junior High School. Elaine was also crowned queen at the Martin Luther King Urban Center. She loved to sneak off as a kid to the local skating rink, after talking it over with her imaginary friend, Cooney.
She loved to dance, and no one could do it better, from cheerleading to drill team, to growing up two-stepping to old school R&B. Elaine was the life of many parties. She loved a clean home and was always willing to help those in need.
Elaine was not afraid of anyone or anything and never hesitated to speak her mind. Most of all she loved her family. She was a great mother, grandmother, cousin, aunt and friend. She will be greatly missed by her two youngest grandchildren who she called, “Big Thirsty” and “Lil Thirsty”.
She answered the Master’s call on Saturday, December 3, 2016. Her mother, Edith Mays and one brother, Elvin Mays preceded her in death.
She leaves to cherish her memory her children, Kevin Tatum, Keith Mays and Briana Mays; father Elvis Mays (Norma), Modesto, CA; siblings, Victor Harris (Sandra), Verdell Mays, Jacqueline Mays, Tracy Mays, Audrey Mitchell, Christine Davis (Jerome), and Kimberly Mays; grand- children, Kevion Tatum, Damond Tallie, Reauna Mays, Kelvon McGee, Kiaonna Tatum, King Williams, and D’Angelo Williams; special friend, Stevie Caruthers and a host of uncles, aunts, nephews, nieces, cousins, other relatives and friends.
