MRS. BESSIE MAE WILSON
(September 28, 1928 - January 4, 2017)
Mrs. Bessie Mae Wilson was born September 28, 1928 in Roland, Arkansas to James and Relester Arleen (Martin) Smith. She was called home to be with the Lord on January 4, 2017.
She was preceded in death by her parents, one sister, Louise Smith, one brother, William G. Smith, and her youngest daughter, Sylvia Yvonne Cooper.
Mother Wilson gave her life to Jesus Christ at an early age, and was baptized at the First Baptist Church of Roland, Arkansas. She was a member of St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church of Kansas City, Missouri under the pastorate of Reverend Calvin Buford where she served faithfully as a member of the Mother Board, Deaconess, Trustees and Ministers Wives auxiliary until her health failed.
Bessie married the love of her life, Maurice Wilson, on July 9, 1949 and to this union seven children were born. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and aunt to her family. She enjoyed singing, sewing, and was an excellent cook, being noted for her scrumptious chicken and dumplings.
She was employed by Saint Joseph Medical Center as a Nurses Aide for 20 plus years. She was a valued employee because of her work ethics, kind heart and loving spirit.
Bessie leaves to cherish her memory: her loving husband of 67 years Maurice Wilson; six children, Arthur (Patricia) Wilson, Clarice (Rev. Calvin) Buford, Saundra (James) Boyd, Dorethea (Leonard) Jenkins, Brenda Walls, Kenneth (Anita) Wilson; 16 grand children; 14 great grand children; 3 great-great grand children; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and her St. Paul Baptist Church family.
Services for Mrs. Bessie Mae Wilson will be held at 11:00 AM, Friday (today), January 13, 2017 at St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church, 3238 Paseo Boulevard, Kansas City, Missouri, Pastor Calvin Buford officiating. Burial Fort Leavenworth Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM at the church. Thoughtful care and services provided by Golden Gate Funeral and Cremation Services.
