Carlene ‘Diane’ (Bruns) Anderson Davenport was born on January 29, 1932, in Chicago, Cook County, IL to Glen Carnahan and Catherine (Parish) Carnahan. She attended elementary schools in Chicago, IL and Toledo, OH, and graduated from Kansas City, KS public high school in May 1950. Diane enlisted in the U.S. Army and worked at Travis AirForce Base in Los Angeles, CA until her marriage in February 1952 to Cleo William ‘Bill’ Anderson, who was also in the U.S. Army at that base. Bill Anderson’s family was from Great Falls, MT. To this union were born two sons: Gregory (1952-1996) born in Los Angeles, CA and Guy (1954-1986) born in Kansas City, MO. They were divorced.
In 1962 she married Bernard Earl Davenport, and he adopted her two sons. They were divorced 1975.
Diane earned both her Professional Secretarial certificate and a Paralegal certificate, used as an administrative assistant for most of her professional life, but also worked at a variety of companies in the metro Kansas City area, such as FOX101 radio, Folgers Coffee Company, American Outfitters, and several paralegal positions as well as a special investigator for the State of Missouri.
When she retired from Humana Insurance Company in 1997, she picked up her next career remodeling homes (1997-2019) in the Waldo area of Kansas City with her friends and work-partners, Ken and Becky Henderson, building an enduring friendship.
Her hobbies included landscaping (installing backyard fish ponds), gardening, growing flowers, bike riding the MS150 each year, sewing her own clothing, and creating cloth stuffed animals for her grandchildren.
Carlene Diane Davenport departed this life at St. Joseph’s Hospital ICU on Sunday, November 24, 2024, after abdominal surgery. She was preceded in death by her adoptive father, Bernard George Bruns (1972) and her mother Catherine Marie (Parish) Bruns (1985), her two sons, and her brother Gene Bruns (2022). She is survived by her brother Jack (Nancy) Bruns and her sister-in-law, Cherylin Bruns, her daughter-in-law Carol Davenport McLaughlin, her four grandsons: Guy, Jr. Davenport, Paul Davenport, Peter Davenport, and step-grandson Joseph McLaughlin; and her seven great-grandchildren: Jack, Gillian, Colin, Houston, Harper, Beckham, and Pierce, as well as many nephews, nieces, and friends, who cherish her memory.
