Take a moment and let me introduce you to my daddy, Craig Hampton. Depending on how long you've known him, you may call him Buzzy, Craig, Bear, or even Mr. Hampton. My daddy was born to William Donald and Carrie Lee Hampton in 1953. He is the eldest brother to my amazing Aunt Carmen Hampton Julious and Uncle Kevin Mahogany.
My dad is a proud Lincoln Tiger from the class of 1972. He attended Mizzou and Penn Valley before serving in the United States Marine Corps from 1975-1977 in the development and education command.
He was discharged from the H and S battalion as a Lance Corporal.
In May of 1985 the love of his life, the apple of his eye, his biggest accomplishment, his favorite girl, Beverly Hampton was born.
To know my father is to know he always has a story to tell and a joke to share with anyone within earshot. My dad spent a large portion of his life in both the pool hall and bowling alley. Two hobbies he enjoyed immensely and was good at both. My daddy has a love and knowledge of music and football that is second to none. He has always been a member of the Kansas City Chiefs couching staff. My dad often called himself the “punisher” because he was a dominologist and a beast at the card table!
My dad worked many places during his lifetime. His favorite was being a corrections officer. He retired from the city of Kansas City in 2013.
My father led an amazing and full life with no regrets. He told me before he passed that he was confident in his salvation and was sure he was going to heaven. He was a marine until the end. Brave and uncompromising. He bore his burdens with admirable grace. He faced his death with courage and faith. What more could we ask for? Thank you, God. My dad was preceded in death by his parents William Donald Hampton and Carrie Lee (Hampton) Mahogany, and baby brother Kevin Mahogany. His legacy will continue through his daughter, Beverly Hampton; granddaughter, Diamond Wooten, sister, Carmen Hampton Julious (Jonathon); and nephew, Jacari Julious. He will be remembered in the hearts of all who know him.
As I promised my dad I would, I acknowledge I owe him $2 and have sent his money via check with him.
