David Lee Sampson, 81, of Kansas City, MO, died at the Veteran’s Hospital in Kansas City, from complications due to Cancer, on February 6, 2024. He was born in Nevada, Iowa in 1943 to Harold and Esther Sampson, and eventually moved to Stratford, Iowa where he graduated from high school in 1961, before joining the US Navy. He served on the “USS Oriskany” where he worked in the galley. After serving three years, he returned and attended Devry Institute of Technology, studying electronics. He married and started a family in 1967 and started working for Sears as an appliance/tv repairman in Waterloo, Iowa. Transferring to Charles City, Iowa in 1979, he continued working for Sears, until he began his own repair business in 1984, Sampson’s Service. In 1988, he closed the business and moved to Kansas City, MO, working for Rent-a-Center, servicing televisions, appliances, and computers, retiring in 2002. David married Nancy Sampson in 2003 and Kimberly Ervin in 2014.

David was preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Esther Sampson, wife Ruth Sampson; wife Nancy Sampson;  son-in-law, Ben Cleaveland;  brother, Harley Sampson; sister, Lois Bergman; brother, Richard Sampson; and stepson, Joshua Ervin. He is survived by his wife, Kimberly Ervin, of Kansas City; 4 children, John Sampson of Kansas City, Sharon Cleaveland of Kansas City, and Douglas and Cynthia Sampson of Denton, TX; three grandchildren; Tyler Sampson, Sterling Sampson, and Madison Cleaveland; one great grandchild, Oliver Cleaveland, seven stepchildren, and ten step-grandchildren.


A memorial service honoring David:

Saturday, February 24th at 11:00 am
