Delbert Dean Hopkins

Delbert Dean Hopkins, 77, passed away on March 21, 2025, in Kansas City, MO, with his wife of over 55 years by his side. Delbert was born on September 22, 1947, in El Dorado, Kansas. He married his beloved wife, Pamela (Markee), on August 10, 1969.

Delbert was preceded in death by his parents, Claude and Julia Hopkins, and his sister, Linda Hopkins. He is survived by his wife; daughters, Debbie Alden (Mark) and Jill Hopkins; grandson, Andrew Lewick; brothers, Richard, Gene, Darrell (Wanda), Mike (Jo), and Larry Hopkins; Tom Harker (Corliss); and sisters, Sharon Walsh (Dan), Nita Shaffer (Ron), Nancy, Kathy, and Karen Hopkins.

Delbert was raised in Potwin, Kansas, and graduated from Remington High School. He proudly served in the U.S. Army and fought in Vietnam. He spent most of his working life in Newton, Kansas, at Full Vision and finished his career at BMG in Hesston, Kansas. He enjoyed volunteering with the Newton High School vocational training program.

After retiring, Delbert moved to Missouri to be closer to his daughter, Jill, and grandson. He spent several years attending games, teaching Andrew how to build things, and fishing. Delbert loved going to Arizona to ride ATVs and camp with Debbie and Mark. Vacations were spent driving out west and visiting the National Parks and other sites. Delbert was happiest spending time with his family and helping his friends on their farms, especially during harvest.

In the final years of his life, he never met a stranger and made many new friends in Kansas City, both in his residence and in the Rock Steady community.
