Helen Jeanette Lewis

Helen Jeanette Lewis (Jan) was born on May 30th, 1959, in Kansas City, Missouri to Walter and Barbara Lewis. She went to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on September 3rd, 2024.

Helen was diagnosed with cancer in July 2023. Throughout her journey with cancer, she had the peace of God that was a blessing to anyone who spent time with her. She was preceded in death by her parents, Walter and Barbara Lewis and her brother Bill Lewis. Helen leaves her sister Phyllis, brother Bob (Tammy), and several other family members and good friends to cherish her memory.

Helen graduated from Truman High School. She attended Parkville University as well as Webster University where she received her Master’s Degree in Business Administration. Helen was an accountant/payroll specialist and blessed several companies over the years with her gifts and abilities. She was a devoted employee and took her work seriously. It was shared that she was quite organized and had set up some great systems that are still being utilized and appreciated today. Most recently she was employed with the Raytown Fire Department.

Helen loved The Word of God and teaching/sharing it with others. She was well versed in the books of Kings and Chronicles and taught studies over those books and others many times. She enjoyed attending women's conferences, taking road trips, and any opportunity to fellowship, sing and pray with her friends. She often could often be found singing in nursing homes and ringing the Salvation Army bell with good friends. She had a soft spot in her heart for those who were not as privileged as she was and often poured out the provisions that God had granted to her on them.

Those who loved and knew Helen thought of her as a gracious, humble, compassionate person who lived with great integrity. Some of the little things in life that would put a smile on her face were iced tea, peach shakes from Chick-fil-A, M&M's, the fall season, and Christmas lights. Some of Helen's favorite verses were Proverbs 3:5-6 and Philippians 4:4-8.

Helen was a beloved daughter, sister, aunt, sister in Christ and a cherished, special friend to many. Helen had a beautiful singing voice, and it is exciting to think of her singing with the angels in Heaven.

Helen's loved ones would like to thank everyone for their prayers and support. We would like to give a huge thank you to Kansas City Hospice for the care that they provided and orchestrated for Helen over the past couple of months. A special thank you to the gentleman who came with his guitar and sang with Helen.

Home Going Services will be held for Helen at First Baptist Church of Northern Heights at 6311 NW Waukomis Dr. KC, MO 64151 on September 21st at 2:00 PM.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The American Cancer Society or The First Baptist Church of Northern Heights.
