Hermelinda Tovar was born on March 24, 1933, in Lagos de Moreno, Jalisco, Mexico, to Refugio Tovar and Francisca Espinosa. From a young age, Hermelinda began working at the age of 7 to support her family. In her youth, one of her favorite pastimes was dancing, visiting family, and spending time with her loved ones. She was always deeply loved by everyone around her. Later, she married the love of her life, Juan Luis Callejas, with whom she shared a deep and unbreakable bond. Their marriage was blessed with six children, two of whom survive her today.

Through her daughter Gloria Callejas, Hermelinda was blessed with four grandchildren: Isela, Alma, Karen, and Omar. She was also a great-grandmother, with Isela giving her four great-grandchildren and Alma two more.

Her son, Juan Francisco Callejas Tovar, passed away in 2015. Through him, Hermelinda had a granddaughter named Fátima and two great-granddaughters, Hazel and Mariana.

After the passing of her husband, Hermelinda chose not to remarry, honoring his memory and dedicating her life to her family and her faith. Hermelinda’s greatest dream was to visit the Holy Land and be baptized in the Jordan River, a dream she was able to fulfill a few years ago.

Throughout her life, Hermelinda traveled back and forth, yearly or bi-yearly, from Mexico City to the United States to visit her family. These trips brought her great joy as she cherished spending time with her children and grandchildren. In the final six years of her life, she decided to stay in the United States, living in the family home, where she found happiness and comfort surrounded by her loved ones. During this time, she was lovingly cared for by her grandchildren Catherine Manrique and Alexander Manrique, along with her daughter Amalia Callejas and her son-in-law Alejandro Manrique, until her last day.

Hermelinda had a heart full of love and compassion. She was known for her talent in the kitchen, where she found joy in preparing meals for her loved ones and sharing her warmth through her cooking. She also treasured the moments she spent with her family, especially going out to eat together and creating unforgettable memories. A woman of deep faith, Hermelinda devoted her life to God, selflessly serving others, always with a positive attitude and a smile for everyone, inspiring those around her to walk the path of kindness and humility.

Her legacy is one of unwavering love, generosity, devotion to God, and dedication to the Virgin Mary and the Mystical Rose. Hermelinda’s greatest wish was for her family and friends to follow in her footsteps, embracing a life of faith, compassion, and unity. She departed this life on January 6, 2025, leaving behind an eternal legacy of love and inspiration. She will always be remembered in the hearts of those who had the privilege of knowing her and feeling her unique love, which was her defining characteristic.

En Memoria de Hermelinda Tovar

Hermelinda Tovar nació el 24 de marzo de 1933 en Lagos de Moreno, Jalisco, México, hija de Refugio Tovar y Francisca Espinosa. Desde muy joven, Hermelinda comenzó a trabajar a los 7 años para apoyar a su familia. En su juventud, uno de sus pasatiempos favoritos era bailar, visitar a la familia y convivir con sus seres queridos. Siempre fue muy querida por todos los que la rodeaban. Más tarde, se casó con el amor de su vida, Juan Luis Callejas, con quien compartió un vínculo profundo e inquebrantable. Su matrimonio fue bendecido con seis hijos, de los cuales dos aún la sobreviven.

De parte de su hija Gloria Callejas, Hermelinda tuvo la dicha de tener cuatro nietos: Isela, Alma, Karen y Omar. También fue bisabuela, ya que Isela le dio cuatro bisnietos, y Alma, dos más.

Su hijo, Juan Francisco Callejas Tovar, falleció en el año 2015. A través de él, Hermelinda tuvo una nieta llamada Fátima y dos bisnietas, Hazel y Mariana.

Después del fallecimiento de su esposo, Hermelinda decidió no volver a casarse, honrando su memoria y dedicando su vida a su familia y a su fe. El mayor sueño de Hermelinda era visitar Tierra Santa y ser bautizada en el Río Jordán, un sueño que pudo cumplir hace algunos años.

A lo largo de su vida, Hermelinda viajaba de ida y vuelta, ya sea cada año o cada dos años, desde la Ciudad de México a los Estados Unidos para visitar a su familia. Estos viajes le traían una gran alegría, ya que disfrutaba pasar tiempo con sus hijos y nietos. En los últimos seis años de su vida, decidió quedarse en Estados Unidos, viviendo en el hogar familiar, donde encontró felicidad y consuelo rodeada de sus seres queridos. Durante este tiempo, fue cuidada con amor por sus nietos Catherine Manrique y Alexander Manrique, junto con su hija Amalia Callejas y su yerno Alejandro Manrique, hasta su último día.

Hermelinda tenía un corazón lleno de amor y compasión. Era conocida por su talento en la cocina, donde encontraba alegría al preparar comidas para sus seres queridos y compartir su calidez a través de la comida. También atesoraba los momentos que compartía con su familia, especialmente cuando salían a comer juntos y creaban recuerdos inolvidables. Mujer de una fe profunda, Hermelinda dedicó su vida a Dios, sirviendo a los demás de manera desinteresada, siempre con una actitud positiva y una sonrisa para todos, inspirando a quienes la rodeaban a caminar por el camino de la bondad y la humildad.

Su legado es uno de amor inquebrantable, generosidad, Adoración a Dios y debocion a la Virgen María y Ma.Rosa Mística. El mayor deseo de Hermelinda era que su familia y amigos siguieran sus pasos, abrazando una vida de fe, compasión y unidad. Partió de esta vida el 6 de enero de 2025, dejando un legado eterno de amor e inspiración. Siempre será recordada en los corazones de aquellos que tuvieron el privilegio de conocerla y sentir su amor único que era lo que la caracterizaba.
