Ira H. Mills

Mr. Ira H. Mills, 88, answered the Master’s call on Sunday, August 13, 2023 at his home in Belton, Missouri surrounded by his loving family.

Ira was born April 21, 1935, in Kansas City, Missouri to William E. and Beatrice Mills.  His parents, as well as, three brothers, William Mills, William Mills Jr., and Ira Mills III; six sisters, Katherine Simpson, Shirley Williams, Jolene Brown, Melba Dostal, Willetta Fletcher, and Almeda Lockett; and one daughter, Vicki Mills, all preceded him in death.

Ira attended R.T. Coles High School.  Soon afterwards, he enrolled in the United States Army. He was blessed with three children from a previous marriage. Ira met and married the love of his life, Carolyn Valentine. They shared 67 wonderful years together.  After relocating himself and his bride to Washington DC, they began their family.  After 11 years, they returned to Kansas City, Missouri where he worked until he retired as a salesman at Manor Bread. 

Ira was a member of Ebenezer Missionary Baptist Church for 20 plus years. He was very faithful and dutiful, serving on the Board of Trustees, Head of the Landscaping Dept., Head Pot scrubber (under directorship of Mother Rosie Roberson), and he faithfully attended the Men's Ministry as well as Bible study.

Left to continue his legacy and cherish his memories, his wife, Carolyn Mills; daughters, Letitia (Terry) Purdue of Blue Springs Mo, Cathy (Greg) of Cyrus Frisco, Texas, Gina Mills Stinson, Raymore, Mo; son, Gary (Kari) Mills, Navarre, Florida; son, Ira Mills II; daughter; Rhonda Mills; brother, Herbert ((Katherine) Mills of California; sister, Margo Watson, N. Kansas City, Mo; thirteen grandchildren, Marcus Purdue, Matthew Purdue, Kevin Cyrus, Brandon Cyrus, Johnathon Stinson, Angelin Mills, Xavier Mills, Emma Ellis, Madelyn Ellis,  Braden Ellis, Alycia Mills, and Daphney Mills; six great-grandchildren, Madelyn Grace Purdie, Tristan Purdie, Leah Purdie, Isabella Cyrus, and Ira Mills III and a host of other grandchildren, other relatives, and friends.

Funeral Services will beheld on Saturday August 26, 2023, visitation will be held from 10 A.M. - 11 A.M. with services beginning at 11 A.M. at Ebenezer Missionary Baptist Church 8640 Sni- A- Bar Rd KCMO 64129.
