James Edward Carter was born February 15, 1944 in Cotton Valley, Louisiana. He was the first of fifteen children to Christopher Columbus Carter Jr. and Margie Louise Carter.
At the age of fourteen, James moved to Kansas City, Missouri and stayed with his aunt, Mozell Jacob. He later met and married Sheila M. Hemmerle and they were blessed with four children, James E. Carter-Mickelsen, Angel M. Savage (Tony Savage), Lisa R. Carter and Dana J. Carter- Johnson (Brian Johnson).
James Carter attended Pleasant Green Baptist Church where he accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior and he was also baptized.
James loved going fishing with his cousins, visiting friends, and listening to Blues music. He enjoyed joking around with his nephews with his free spirit. Also James loved visiting with his grandchildren and he enjoyed watching Westerns and CSI.
James departed his life on Thursday, May 25, 2023 in Liberty, Missouri. Loved ones preceding him in death were his parents, Christopher Columbus Carter Jr, and Margie Louise Carter; former wife, Sheila M. Hemmerle; brother, William C. Carter; sisters, Ivory J. Carter-Robbins, and Henrietta I. Carter; and sisters in-law, Natalie Carter and Sherilyn Carter.
Left to cherish his memory, his siblings, Gemes E. Carter, Tommie S. Carter (California), Roosevelt L. Carter (Louisiana), Betty L. English (Richard English) (California), Margaret A. Smith, Marcella Carter, Charles C. Carter, Jaynora Carter, Diccie L. Brenson (Ronald Brenson Sr.), Eric L. Carter and Kendrick D. Carter; grandchildren, Donte' Mickelsen Jr. (Ciara Mickelsen), Maurte' Walker Jr., Rondell Carter Sr., Jalen Ross (Maranda Ross), James Mickelsen Jr., Mariah Robinson, Jasmine Mickelsen, Julian Ross, Mark Robinson Jr., Marcurah Woodard, Kristian Savage, Dallas Carter, Tony Savage Jr., and Damon Williams Jr.; nine great-grandchildren, and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins, other relatives, and friends.
Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday June 7, 2023, visitation will be from 10 A.M. - 11 A.M. with the services beginning at 11A.M. at Golden Gate Funeral & Cremation Services, LLC 2800 East 18th st., Kansas City, Mo 64127.
