James Lee Pelton was born September 19, 1946, to the union of David Pelton Sr. and Lily Pelton. James accepted Jesus Christ as his Savior and gave his life to Christ. James attended and graduated from Lincoln High School in Kansas City, Mo. James worked for S&G Metals, Stuart Hall Stationary, and later W.W. Grainger Industrial Supplies. He received a medal of honor for his work as an exemplary supervisor at the Salvation Army store.

James met his ex-wife Patricia Pelton-Moore in high school, and they later married and had a daughter, Felicia. Several years later he met Patricia James Shaw in the Westport area they formed a relationship and had a son Uriah.

James was known to be very smart, an avid reader of novels, history, suspense, and the Bible. He loved to cook, which he learned from his mom and would often cook for his neighbors. He was personable and had a group of close-knit friends. James was a very good baseball player at Lincoln high school. He would often take his nephews to the local park to play ball. He introduced his daughter to the Bayou Classic football games at an early age. He and his son often would go to Chiefs’ games. He was a sports fanatic and loved to attend sporting events, but he was a super fan for his Kansas City Chiefs. He could tell you about any player, on any team, both past and present.

James departed this life on Monday, February 13, 2023. He was preceded in death by his parents David Pelton Sr. and Lilli Pelton; both of Kansas City, MO; his ex-wife Patricia Pelton-Moore; his sister Joyce Johnson of Fort Worth, TX; his brothers David Pelton Jr and Charles “Reddy” Pelton Sr; his niece Judith Morris; nephews, Bill Franklin, Michael Hayes, and Ronald Hayes; great niece, Ki-essence Pelton; great-nephews, Gerald Franklin, Darryl Fennel Jr., and Ryan Morrow; great-great nephews, Deron Morris, and Charles Ray Pelton III.

James is survived by his daughter, Felicia Sumler (Robert); his son, Uriah James (Joslin); stepfather, George Lee (Doris); siblings, Juanita Johnson, Nadine Gordon (Gerald), Marvin Pelton, and Vivian Pelton; five grandkids; two great-grand-kids; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and other relatives.

Funeral Services will be held on Saturday March 4, 2023 @ Golden Gate Funeral & Cremation Services, LLC

Visitation will be from 10 A.M.  - 11 A.M. with services beginning at 11 A.M.

Internment : Forest Hill Cemetery
