Joan Bartlett Ridge died peacefully on March 30, 2024. Joan was born in Kansas City on September 17, 1933 to Jerome Bartlett & Jennie Hockaday Bartlett. She attended Border Star School, Southwest High School, Bennett Junior College & graduated from Southern Methodist University.
In 1957, Joan married Francis Searcy Ridge (Frank) and had two children; William Searcy Ridge II (Bill) & Elizabeth Sharpe Ridge (Betsy).
Joan was a member of BOTAR, the Junior League of Kansas City & Children’s Relief Association. She was the director of the Altar Guild at St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church and then moved to the same position at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church. Her volunteer positions were very important to her & brought her much satisfaction.Joan was an early co-owner of The Studio Needlepoint shop in Brookside where she learned & enjoyed both painting & stitching canvasses.
From an early age, Joan spent her summers at Chippewa Cabin in northwest Wisconsin. She passed her love of WISMO & Lac Court Oreilles on to her husband, her children & her grandchildren. Joan is survived by a brother; Irvine Hockaday Bartlett (Mary), her children; Bill Ridge (Jodie), Betsy Fountain (Mark), grandchildren; Claire Davidson Ridge, Elizabeth Ridge Carver (Alex), Grace Sharpe Ridge, Samuel Ridge Fountain & Henry Ellis Fountain.
Services will be held in the Chapel of the Epiphany at Bishop Spencer Place on June 1, 2024 at 11:00 a.m.
