Kameela Joi Brown was born December 21, 1990, in Kansas City, Missouri, to Robert Brown and Toi Smith.
Kameela was a lifelong learner, educated at Lincoln College Preparatory Academy, Job Corps and received her Associate of Arts Degrees from Fort Scott Community College and Pittsburg State University. She was a recipient of the Adult Learner’s Scholarship through KC Scholars, among other academic accomplishments.
Kameela nurtured and provided for many young people in her family and community, including her goddaughter, Avi'yanna Funderburke. Kameela enjoyed serving in her church Ebenezer AME and in 2018 was licensed to preach. She was a YPD Advisor, Alberta A. Smith Praise Dance Ministry member, member of the Women’s Missionary Society, Intercessory Prayer member, chaplain for Midwest Conference RAYAC, just to name a few. She loved to write, dance, and help others.
Kameela departed this life on Sunday, October 2, 2022. Her father, Robert Brown; grandmother, Barbara Smith; great-grandmother, Ethyleene Grant; great-great aunts, Betty Madison, and Marion Madison; great-great uncle, Mervin Madison (Marion); beloved aunts, Georgia Brown, and Marjorie Brown; uncles, Ben Brown, and Fred Brown; and cousins, Michael “Pooh” Baker, Barbara Mayo, Darryl Wright Jr., and Tamar “TJ” Grant, all preceded her in death.
Kameela leaves to cherish her memory her mother, Ms. Toi Smith; brother, Robert Brown; grandmother, Laura Brown; aunts, Alice Wright, Ruby Brown, Manerva Gregory (Scott), and Sharon Holmes (Roderick); uncles, Michael Grant, Bill Grant, and George Brown; cousins, Aisha Thornton, Jamil Carter, Nisaa Carter, Sutana Shannon, Mark Shannon, Ashley Misher, Pat Misher, Ivy Collier (Justin), Bahiyyah Gunn (Craig), Sakari Gunn, Danielle Gunn, Truck Gunn, Don Wright, Donesha Wright, Josiah Wright, Promise Wright, Anylah Wright, Alex Mayo (Sarah), Austin Mayo, David Mayo, Laura Mayo, Alexis Mayo, Angela Brown, Minnie Brown, Benetta Brown, Yvonne Brown, Laurel Heath, Sharel Heath, Shantaja Heath, and Brock Booker; best friends, Avonna Wright, and Kanisha Taylor; and a host of other relatives, and loved ones.

Funeral Services will be held on Saturday October 15, 2022, visitation will be from 10 A.M. - 11 A.M. with services beginning at 11 A.M. at Ebenezer A.M.E Church
