Affectionately known as “Kitty”, Kathryn Dancy Hayes was born March 24, 1944 in Athens, Alabama to parents Walter Dancy and Cora Mae Horton.
She attended school at Argentine Middle and High School in Kansas City. Her family migrated to the Kansas City area from Alabama. She remained in Kansas City for the remainder of her adult life. She loved to care for others and spent most of her adult life caring for many individuals as a Nurse’s Assistant. As a young woman, she loved to roller skate and dance. She also loved “name brand” beautiful clothing and shoes. Throughout her life, she loved to entertain. She would cook, invite others over and throw her own birthday parties. During her work life, she spent many years accompanying her patients while caring for them in Florida. In her later years, she loved spending time in Phoenix, Arizona with her daughter and family.
Kathryn married Eugene Hayes. Their marriage was dissolved several years later.
Kathryn was the mother of Gwendolyn Marie Parker, Tonya Lynn Dancy (deceased) and Edward Lee Dancy. She loved her many grandchildren ( Kathryn Dancy, Marcus L. Parker, Jocelyn M. May (Ryan), Marketta Woodard, Jasmine R. Parker (Kyle), Quarchelle Lark Dancy, Raphael Dancy, Ishmael Dancy and Rebecca Dancy. She was also blessed with 13 great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.
Kathryn was preceded in death by her parents Walter Dancy and Cora Mae Malone, her daughter Tonya Lynn Dancy, her sister Barbara Shaw (Roger) and her brother Joe Lewis Malone. She leaves behind her cherished sisters Bertha Soil (John), Costella Malone Collins (Turner) and brother Larry Malone (Nevis).
She had many extended beloved family members residing in Decatur, Alabama. She also had a host of dearly loved nieces and nephews.
She was a longtime member of New Hope Missionary Baptist Church in Kansas City, Missouri serving on the Mother’s Board, Kitchen Committee and many other auxiliaries. She was also charitable and donated to various children’s organizations. On May 7, 2024, she gained her wings and is now rejoicing with God in her heavenly home.
