Leroy Albert "Lee" Short

It is with profound sadness that I share the passing of my beloved Dad, Leroy Albert "Lee" Short, 63. He passed away on January 23, 2025, in Kansas City, Missouri. Born on February 19, 1961, in Kansas City, Missouri, he spent his life dedicated to hard work, family, and the things he loved most.

Leroy was raised by his grandparents, Eliza and John Mendez, in the Northeast area of Kansas City off Benton BLVD. He enjoyed many years of friendship from that area. Lee built a career spanning multiple companies, including Schooler and Associates, Rensen House of Lights, and an impressive 19 years with Walker-Loudermilk Company, where his son followed in his footsteps. His dedication and strong work ethic left a lasting impact on colleagues and friends (Bob, Dave and Dan) alike. Beyond work, Lee had a passion for dirt track racing and NASCAR, always eager to watch the next big race. He was also an avid bowler and a devoted fan of the Kansas City Chiefs and WWE.

His love for Camaros was well known among those close to them. His prize was1979 Red Camaro. Later he found a love for pickup trucks.

Leroy is survived by his beloved son, Jonathan Short and his fiancée Jameisha Dudley; former wife and lifelong friend Deborah Long Turner; nephew Brian Green (Candy) and their children Brandon, Chase, and Alyssa; cousin Sharon (Steve) Clovis; family members Jennifer Snyder and Angela (Jason) Hilton along with their children Elijah and Ezrah Hilton and Joseph Arnone; former in-laws Jim and Pauline Long; brothers-in-law Mike (Jan) Long and Rich (Kay) Long; sisters-in-law Lori (Bob) Lyon; nieces Kari (Jermaine) Mack, Sara Long, Kristina (Jermar) Carter, Kelley (Gary) Knight; as well as many extended family members who cherished him deeply.

He was preceded in death by grandparents Eliza (Green) and John Mendez; parents Gloria and Grant Winningham; brother Edward "Eddie" Eugene Green; sister Deborah Jean Short McClelland; and cousin Jack Wilson. A Celebration of Life will be held on February 22, 2025, 5:30 PM, located at A.Lves Reed Celebration Center at 609 Minnie Ave. Belton, Missouri 64012.
