Lonnie Jackson Jr.

Lonnie Jackson, Jr. passed away on July 26, 2024 from complications of a stroke he suffered in March of this year. He fought hard until he could fight no longer. He left this world peacefully.

Lonnie was born on May 31, 1944 to Lonnie Jackson, Sr. and Aurilla Jackson in Tusla, Oklahoma. His family moved to Kansas City, Missouri while he was in elementary school. He graduated from Central High School in 1962 and was a member of one of the first classes of African American students to be integrated into the school. He continued his education at Lincoln University in Jefferson City, Missouri and graduated with a bachelor's degree in Education and began his professional career as an elementary school teacher in the Kansas City Missouri School District. He returned to college, earned a master's degree, was promoted to principal and served as a principal until his retirement. He was assigned to several elementary schools within the district, including Bancroft and Greenwood. He loved his job, his work, and his students.

Lonnie also worked for years for the Jackson County Juvenile Justice Center where he served as a group home supervisor. He loved his job there, too, because it allowed him to not just teach students but to also help them in many other ways.

Lonnie married Mary Lee Woodson in 1968 and to this union three children were born Lonnie Jackson III, Nicole Jackson, and Jacquelyn Jackson (predeceased shortly after birth). Lonnie is also the grandfather of Lonnie Jackson IV, his beloved grandchild. Lonnie was also the brother of Charles Jackson and Robert Jackson, both of whom are deceased.

Lonnie is survived by his brother Robert's family which includes Future Jackson, sister-in-law; Lonnice Jackson, neice; Kristi Jackson, neice; Robert Jackson II, nephew; and Bran Jackson, grandnephew. Lonnie had a very special relationship with his brother, Robert, and his family. Lonnie has other relatives and friends in Missouri, Oklahoma, California, and Georgia with whom he maintained contact.

Lonnie was a member of Metropolitan Missionary Baptist Church throughout his life. He loved his church, his church's members and his pastors. Lonnie was also a retired member of the Kansas City School Administrator Association and a very proud member of the great Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity. He remained a member throughout his illness and death. Lonnie lived a good, full and long life parting this world at the age of 80. His family and those who knew him will deeply miss him. He loved tutoring, fishing, walking and two-stepping.

Job well done. Life well lived. Rest now.
