Born on October 05, 1945 in Chester, SD, the beloved daughter of Edward James DeVaney and Alice Marie Sorensen.

Her curiosity and determination led her to passionately pursue education as her profession. She earned her Bachelor of Arts degree (B.A.) from the University of South Dakota, then broadened her horizons further as a recipient of both a Goethe Institute Grant and Fulbright Grant. Summer programs at Murray State University and UMass Amherst enriched her perspective, while a Master of Arts in Education degree (M.A. Ed.) and Education Specialist degree (Ed.S) from the University of Missouri - Kansas City shaped her into an extraordinary educator.

She wore many hats in her early years as a receptionist, desk clerk, counselor, lifeguard, and swimming instructor.

For decades she inspired countless students at Winnetonka High School, first teaching English and later German. Known affectionately as Frau she opened doors to new cultures and ideas. She hosted a foreign exchange student, arranged international trips through AFS, and led the German Club. After retiring from the North Kansas City school district in 2004, she continued teaching at Manuel Career Tech Center and Central High School. She belonged to several teachers’ associations, the National Honor Society, the American Association of University Women, Gamma Psi, and AAUW.

‘Marji’ was a loving sister to: Col. James E. ‘Jim’ DeVaney (deceased); Julie J. Dirks; Fredrick M. DeVaney; David D. DeVaney; Lynne M. Shipman.

She was married August 28th, 1971 and had 2 children; Michael E. Enos and Michelle R. Enos. She had 9 grandchildren and proudly held the moniker of Morma; Devon Critten, Dana Critten, Michael Enos Jr., Miles Enos, Charlee Enos, Edward Enos, Allison Stockton, Willow Chaloupecky, Ledger Chaloupecky and great-grandchild Nova Critten.

She was always a beautiful and stylish entertainer. She doted on her loved ones and never hesitated to whip up your favorite dish. Her life was abounding with love, kindness, graciousness and compassion.
