Mary Margaret Coleman was born to the union of William and Bessie Coleman on Monday, December 1, 1941 in Fayette, MO.
The family left their hometown, moving to Kansas City in 1955, where she graduated from Central High School. She worked at
Folger’s Coffee and after retiring from there, she worked part time at the Kansas City Star. Mary received the Lord in her youth. God made our loved one the caring, giving, nurturing, lovingly wonderful woman that she was. Our Queen was the most kind-hearted person in the world. Those in attendance today can and will concur. There was nothing she wouldn’t do for the people in her life. In the middle of the block on 18th Street, that’s where our friends gathered for food, fun and festivities. Everyone was welcome, Mary always made folks feel right at home. Whether it was Christmas breakfast or social gatherings of any sort,
TLC was felt and seen once you entered the door of 1914.
Mary loved to travel; if you knew her, you knew she was game for hitting the road. Family, friends and neighbors had some of the best times with her in and outside of KCMO. Mary never met a stranger. If you were blessed to come in
contact with her you would become instantly infected by her friendly nature. But don’t get it twisted, she kept it real too. This
woman was a God send, a true friend down to the very end. Mary departed this life on Monday, July 17, 2023. She was
preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Donald Coleman.
Her legacy of love will be carried on by, son, Ricky Coleman (Cynthia), of the city; two daughters, Kathy Lettsome (Arvan),
Euless, TX and Tracey Coleman (Phillip Nash) of the city; brother, Ralph Powell of Columbia, MO; grandchildren,
Christopher Coleman, of the city, Sean Brodie, of Atlanta, GA, Robert Turner II (Lanisha) of the City, Tyrone Goodwin, of the
City, Me´Laine Hanna (TJ), California, and Petryce Lettsome, NC; great-grandchildren, nephews, nieces, cousins, and a host
of extended family and friends, plus her little bestie - DC.
