Michael A. Shockley

Michael Shockley, 58, passed away peacefully on Saturday, June 1, 2024, at Saint Luke’s Hospital in Kansas City, MO. Born on April 4, 1966, to Lorraine Shockley, Michael was a lifelong resident of Kansas City. He spent his entire life in the city he loved, surrounded by family and friends.

Michael dedicated over 20 years to Saint Luke’s Hospital, where he became a beloved member of the hospital community. Known for his warm smile and caring nature, he built strong bonds with both his co-workers and the patients he served. His colleagues and those he cared for appreciated his kindness, dedication, and the laughter he brought to their lives.

One of Michael's greatest passions was building robots. His creative mind and skillful hands allowed him to deconstruct almost anything and repurpose the parts into innovative and intricate robotic creations. This hobby brought him immense joy and was a source of comfort and inner peace. His fascination with robots was evident to all who knew him, as he often showcased his work at neighborhood parties and local events, much to the delight and amazement of attendees.

Michael had a sweet tooth, particularly for black and white sandwich cookies, which he loved to enjoy with a cold glass of milk. This simple pleasure was one of the many things that brought a smile to his face. He was also a passionate fan of Halloween, relishing the chance to create new costumes and spooky decorations each fall. His enthusiasm for the holiday was contagious, and friends and family eagerly anticipated his latest Halloween creations and the fun scares he would orchestrate.

The family would like to extend their deepest appreciation to Saint Luke’s Hospital for the exceptional care and support they provided Michael, especially during and after his heart transplant. The compassion and dedication of the hospital staff brought comfort to Michael and his family during a challenging time, and their kindness will never be forgotten.

Michael is survived by his loving daughter Micah Lorraine Shockley; his devoted sons, Ryan Riley, Michael Shockley II, and Deon Davis; and his cherished grandchildren, Xavier Shockley, Jaidyn Shockley, Maliyah Brock, Zoë Riley, and Zion Riley. He is also survived by his sisters, Nedra Draughn and his twin Michelle Thompson, as well as his brother Jerome Thompson. Michael leaves behind a large extended family, including a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins who were like siblings to him.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Lorraine Shockley; his brother, Gary Shockley; and his aunt, Margaret Lynn (Tody), who lovingly raised him after his mother's passing. Their memories, along with Michael’s, will be cherished by those who were fortunate enough to know them.

Michael Shockley’s warmth, creativity, and zest for life touched the hearts of many. His legacy of love, laughter, and ingenuity will live on in the memories of his family and friends. He will be deeply missed, but his spirit will forever remain a part of those who loved him.
