Frances Jean Batts was born September 4, 1940 In Ripley, Tennessee to Naomi Purdle and Milton Buchanan. Frances was nurtured and raised by Ada and Jeff Hart. She received her education in Lauderdale County. Frances accepted Christ at an early age at Springhill Missionary Baptist Church in Ripley, Tennessee.
Frances joined Salem Baptist Church July 1, 1962. She was the church secretary for 31 years and retired in February 2004. Mother was active on the Usher board, Trustee Board and several other components of the church.
Frances was united in marriage to James Franklin Batts Sr., November 7, 1959. To this union three children were born.
She genuinely loved people. She had a heart of ministry and such a sweet giving spirit. She was very benevolent to those who encountered her, you may have received her famous butter cookies.
She departed this life on January 3, 2022. Her parents, foster parents, siblings, Dorothy Faye, Lucille, Robert, Carl, James, Lee Troy, and her husband preceded her in death.
She leaves to cherish her memory: Children, Alan Batts, James (Christina) Batts and Angela (Donyel) Evans: Siblings, Essie Snead, Ann Smith, Charles (Irma)Williams, Mary Lowe, Sister n Love, Muriel Brown; Her two grand children that cared for her, Darius Batts and Donovan Washington; two dear friends, Maggie Adams and Dorothy Epps; 14 grandchildren, 16 great-grand-children: nephews, nieces, cousins, other relatives, and friends.
