Patricia “Patty” Ann Hrad (nee Thompson) was born in Chicago, Illinois on March 23, 1947. She was raised by her beloved grandparents, Nana & Pa, her Aunt Dee-dee, and her favorite person in the world, her mother, Mary C. Thompson. Patty grew up on the south side of Chicago where she attended Visitation High School and graduated from Chicago State University, as a special education teacher. She married the love of her life, Robert Hrad, in 1970.
They were blessed with 5 children. Patty took great pride and honor in being called Mom, not only by her children, but also by all the friends of her sons. She always had an extra chair at the kitchen table and a spare place to rest their heads. On October 17, 2024, Patty passed to Heaven.
She leaves to cherish her memory the father of her children, Bob Hrad; her children, Michael, Thomas (TammySue), Christopher (Nicki), Regina Schnell (David), and Timothy; sister, Mary Alice Walsh (Ed); nieces, Tricia (Mitch), and Colleen Walsh; and many beloved grandchildren. When life was unsteady, Patty reminded those she loved “This too shall pass.” She believed if we had the faith of a mustard seed, we could move mountains, from the Gospel of Matthew. Services will be private on a warm sunny day in the future at her favorite beach. In lieu of flowers or gifts to the family, a prayer for those who suffer from mental illness or a donation to a local facility that supports those suffering from addiction would be appreciated.
