Rose Marie (Burton) Washington was born on September 14, 1935, the only child of Fermon Burton and Grace (Dangerfield) Burton in Kansas City, Missouri.
“Rose Marie” as everyone called her, was raised on the westside of Kansas City, Missouri, off 14th Street. Her stepbrothers were Harold Burton, James Redmond, Jesse Redmond and step-sisters, Rose Lee, all deceased, and Beverly.
Rose accepted Christ and was baptized at an early age. She was a member of St. Therese Little Flower Parish.
Rose was educated in the Kansas City, Missouri and Detroit, Michigan school districts. She also attended college.
Rose was very active and participated in various Community Service groups, organizations and affiliations such as, “The Dior’s (1961 – 1965) a social club with neighborhood family and friends, ‘The Order of Eastern Star, Prince Hall Affiliation F. & A. M.’ , Celestial Chapter #102, O.E.S. under the Jurisdiction of Harmony Grand Chapter, O.E.S. of Missouri, Queen Martha Court No. 33 O. O. C., Under the jurisdiction of The Most Royal Grand Court O.O.C. of Mo., R. W. Foster Chapter No. 36 O.E.S. under the Jurisdiction of Harmony Grand Chapter, O.E.S. Missouri located at Kansas City Missouri, and the Grandparents program of the KCKPS district.
Rose worked for various private and government agencies, and she retired from the Department of Justice/DEA.
Rose was married to Daniel Washington. They were blessed with eight loving children: Thomas F. Washington, Sr.; Clarkston L. Burton; Grace D. (Washington) Arrington; Charles E. Washington (Charlotte); Pearl M. Washington;, Georgia L. Washington; Kris D. Washington; and Myles T. Washington.
Rose transitioned to life eternal on Saturday, April 22, 2023, in her home surrounded by her loving family and friends. She was preceded in death by both parents, her grandparents, two sons, Thomas F. Washington, Sr., and Myles T. Washington, along with three grandchildren, Kacey Gratts, Daniel L. Washington, and Willie I. Washington III.
Rose Marie leaves to cherish her memory her six surviving children; a stepson; stepdaughters; nineteen grandchildren; forty-six great-grandchildren; ten great-great-grandchildren; her long-life friend, Sandy Jones, and a host of nieces, nephews, and other family members and friends.
Memorial Services will be held on Tuesday May 2, 2023 at 3 P.M. at Golden Gate Funeral & Cremation Services, LLC located at 2800 East 18th st., KCMO 64127.
