On April 4, 2023, Timothy Joseph Hays, beloved brother, uncle, and friend, passed away peacefully at the age of 69 years young. He was born in Kansas City, MO and lived in this area most of his life. Tim was predeceased by his father, Walter Gray Hays, his mother, Mary Pearl Hays, his sisters, Barbara A. Boydston and Sheri L. Meyers, and two brother-in-laws, Mark A. Ash and Wilbur Hewitt. He is survived by his brother, Edward D. Hays, and four sisters, Linda M Corcoran, Vicki K. Green, Brenda E. Ash, and Sara L. Hewitt, brother-in-law, John M. Corcoran and sister-in-law, Sherry Lou Hays.
He had many nieces and nephews. Tim was self-employed, an eagle scout, loved to cook, bake, make crafts, enjoyed watching football and tennis, hanging out with family and friends. Tim's passion was playing bridge. He was a fixture in Kansas City duplicate bridge community as one of the top teachers and players in the area. He had an enigmatic spark with new players to forge a lust for the game. Over the course of 35 years, he amassed over 7,000 masters points, was a member of the unit 131 board, and was a decorated teacher.
Tim received a Life Masters in Bridge, is an amazing accomplishment. He taught our mother how to play bridge which turned out to be his most significant accomplishment. Our mother over 12 years amassed 8 masters points and loved every minute of the game, as did everyone that met her at the table. Tim as a sense of humor and a compassion for helping others.
In lieu of flowers, the family ask for donations in Tim's honor to be made to Kansas City Hospice House, 12000 Wornall Road, Kansas City, MO 64145. A celebration of life will be held on Sunday, April 30, 2023 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at St. Thomas the Apostle Episcopal Church, 12251 Antioch Rd, Overland Park, KS 66213. Burial will be on Monday, May 1, 2023, at 10:00 a.m. at Mt. Olivet Catholic Cemetery, Queen of Heaven, 7601 Blue Ridge Blvd, Raytown, MO 64138.
