Vernon Louis Clay

Vernon Louis Clay passed away on April 28, 2023 at the VA Medical Center of Kansas City. He was brought into this world January 5, 1946 in West Memphis, Arkansas to Melvin Clay Sr., and Vorie Clay who preceded him in death. He is also preceded in death by his brothers, Melvin Clay Jr., and Donald E. Clay of KC, and his sisters, Bobbie Ward, Majorie Wright, and Melvern Harris all of STL.

Later in life, he moved with his family to KCMO where he received his full education. Upon graduating, he served in the US Navy during Vietnam and was then honorably discharged after. He then moved to Chicago, Illinois where he was employed with Chicago's Transit Authority for a number of years. Again returning to KCMO continuing employment with KC Transit Authority and VA Medical.

He soon met Janice “Vickey” McCall in 1998 and then went on to have his only child, Erin McCall just a few years later. He enjoyed  family time and spending time with his daughter as much as he could outside of work. If there was a family barbecue he was always there. His memory will live on as I'll never  forget all the good times and great advice he gave me throughout the years we had.

Vernon leaves his precious memories behind for his daughter, Erin McCall; Janice V. McCall (Fiancee); sisters, Joyce Kelly (KC), Vivian Clay (ATL), Janice Clay (ATL), Gail Clay (KC), and Ridell Litsey (STL); special nephew, Leonard Ward (CO), plus a host of other relatives, and friends.

Funeral Services will be held on Saturday May 20, 2023, visitation will be from 2P.M. - 3P.M. with the services beginning at 3 P.M. at Golden Gate Funeral & Cremation Services, LLC.
