William Devers George passed away peacefully Friday, March 8, 2024, at 7:48 AM at KC Hospice House in Kansas City, Missouri. William was known to his family and friends as Bill (“Bill for short”).
He was born in Louisville, Kentucky on February 8, 1943, to Ann Henchey George and Edwin George. Bill grew up in the Highlands a suburb of Louisville with his three brothers Eddie, Matt, and John, as well as a sister, Maryanne Newton. After a few years at Center College in Danville, Kentucky he transferred and graduated from the University of Louisville with a degree in Political Science. On August 17, 1963, Bill married his high school sweetheart and love of his life, Marian Jutt Speckman. Bill and Marian raised three children David, Stacey, and Debbie.
Bill, along with his big brother Matt, worked for Hallmark Cards until they both retired in the 1990s. Working for Hallmark, he moved the family to many amazing cities around the country, including Cleveland, Kansas City, Seattle, and Southern California. However, Kansas City is where the family established its roots. While at Hallmark, Bill was instrumental in the creation of the Gold Crown stores.
Bill was preceded in death by his wife, Marian, father, Edwin Sr., and mother, Ann, siblings Eddie., Maryanne, Matt, and John. He is survived by David and wife Ann Wozniak, Stacey and husband Paul Fischer, and Debbie and husband Robert Stanton. Bill is also survived by his four grandchildren, George, Olivia, Will, and Harrison. A Celebration of Life will be held April 6th, from 2 PM - 5 PM at the home of Stacey and Paul in Prairie Village, KS. For more information you can email to gandyb43@gmail.com.
