William Gage Shaw

William Gage Shaw, 75, was born July 11, 1949, in Ottumwa, Iowa, to William McKinley Shaw and Cora Lee Shaw. William transitioned peacefully from this life into glory on November 27, 2024, at Saint Luke’s Hospice House. The last words William spoke were, “I’m going home.” He has reunited with his loving parents and his sister, Delphine Boyd-Weir.

William was a member of the 24-Hour Worldwide Prayer Center, which is now known as the Anointed and Appointed Church. He de-lighted in giving thanks to the Lord for all the wonderful blessings that He had bestowed upon him.

On May 29, 2004, William married the love of his life, Joan Walker. Their twenty-year union was filled with an abundance of un-conditional love and compassion. They were good to each other and for each other.

William received his education in Kansas City Public Schools and graduated as a Blue Eagle from Central Sr. High School in 1967. During his working years, William embarked on several career paths. As a young adult, he worked in the hospitality and restaurant service industry. He spent fifteen years working in the Food Service Department at Saint Luke’s Hospital and later at the Bishop Spencer Place before retiring.

He was well- known for his love, loyalty, and kindheartedness, and never encountered a stranger. William devoted his life to the people he loved and cared about most. His favorite genres of music were old-school soul, rhythm and blues, and he grooved to them as well. Most of all, he enjoyed watching old black-and-white cowboy movies.

William leaves to cherish his memory, his wife, Joan Shaw, and step-daughter, Sheila Donaldson. His brother, Bishop Ellery Shaw of Lawndale, CA. Three cousins, James and Phyllis Ethern, Stella Ethern, and nephew, Gerald Boyd of the city, two nieces, Raye Pratt and Glenda Collins; three nephews, Joseph, Phillip and William Boyd, all of Los Angeles and Oakland CA, as well as other family members and friends.

William, and his quiet nature and loving spirit will be deeply missed by family and friends.
